Brief

Converse leverages seasonality to create weather appropriate product for our consumers. For Converse's Spring/Summer 2014 collection, I was tasked with creating a summer appropriate material update.

Concept

I explored a variety of lightweight and breathable materials, and collaborated with our material vendors to develop a monofilament mesh durable enough to eliminate the need for a backer in order to maintain the material's transparency. I also deconstructed the Chuck Taylor by replacing its rigid heel counter with a TPU alternative for added transparency and flexibility.

Final design

A lightweight, breathable, flexible, and easy-to-pack summer sneaker. Added bonus: a merchandising opportunity with our sock accessories team!
